Assi Ghat is the southernmost ghat of Varanasi, situated at the confluence of Ganges and its tributary Assi river. Start your day here even before dawn by witnessing the phenomenal Subah-e Banaras– a divine morning aarti ritual followed by group Yoga session and classical music performances. Proceed to take a dip in the Ganges or hail a morning boat ride and watch the sunrise.
Book lovers can spend hours at Harmony Book Shop with enormous collection of books on religion, philosophy, history and tourism. Art enthusiasts can visit the Banaras Art Gallery which showcases and sells the art and sculptures of many renowned and local artist. Do not miss out on trying Pizzeria Vatika café, for some authentic Italian pizza and apple-pie. However, our biggest recommendation will be sipping a hot serving of Lemon Masala Chai or Elaichi Chai (tea) in Kulhad (earthen cup) from the vendors roaming on the stairs of the Ghat while watching the world go by.
Public Transport – Assi Ghat falls at Shivala, prior to the Durgakund Area of Varanasi at a distance of 8 kms from Varanasi Cant railway station. To reach here you can either hire a shared auto-rickshaw from the Cant Railway Station that goes till Durgakund and charges 15 Rs. per person, step down in between at Assi Crossing and walk down to Assi Ghat or you can take a reserved auto- rickshaw that will drop you straight to Assi Ghat and charge around 200 Rs.
